GreenNC 2009 Tradeshow Recap - What a turnout!
If the turnout at GreenNC 2009 is any indication, green building has reached a new level of sophistication and collaboration in NC. I applaud the collaboration between the three NC chapters of the USGBC. It brought attendees in from around the state and broadened the conversation to a place where we can discuss policy and incentives for green building.
We had a booth last year and were pleased with the turnout and exposure, but this year, in the new green (LEED certification pending) Raleigh Convention Center, there were twice as many exhibitors and 4x as many attendees (by my unofficial count). I was struck by the variety of green building companies represented - energy companies representing solar, wind, and electric cars as well as water management solutions for green roofs, parking surfaces, and good old fashioned yards – interestingly, no rain barrels – hopefully we have not forgotten how easily we slip into drought. There were interior products, exterior products, and a whole lot of reclaimed wood. Even more impressive than the variety of exhibitors, was the consistency in the message about green and sustainability. I am not saying that we are done with green washing, but I didn’t see a whole lot of that going on. The exhibitors seemed more educated and the attendees did too. We had a blast talking to architects, designers, and homeowners. Thanks to all who stopped by!
We hope to see you at the AIA SAR in Greenville, SC and NeoCon East in Baltimore, MD later in October. We will have a new 20’ display booth and will be rolling out new products for 2010.
