Where Have All The Colors Gone?

We told you the color of the year was…drumroll…grey? How exciting! Grey! Everyone loves grey: 50 shades of grey, marble with grey veining, blah blah blah. Well, what if you want color? I'm talking about eye-popping, jazz me up, get me out of bed in the morning, make me love my job, color. Feed me more, rev me up, make me run an extra mile, color. Most building materials jumped on the Greyhound bus and haven’t gotten off yet, but we have colorful suggestions to offer: Durat Solid Surface, in 70 vibrant colors; Koskisen, a superior grade Finnish plywood with integral color faced wood grains; reSAWN Charred Timber, in orange, pink, green, red, and blue; Kirei EchoPanel, acoustical treatments - baffles, cloud shapes, stars, and sheets - available in brilliant colors. These brands have doubled down on color and gone against the grey'n.

For samples of something that really invites creativity with color, email us your request at info@caragreen.com

Indoor and Outdoor Man Caves

Cellar dwellers can rejoice as the man cave comes to the backyard in the form of the outdoor kitchen. Big Green Eggs, Traegers, and Webers are flanked by some of the most durable surfaces imaginable. Fire pits and fireplaces are getting high-end upgrades with new textures and claddings that are far more attractive and interesting than traditional dull stone that had a foothold in outdoor kitchens for decades.

Come see our booth (#2862) at the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta, GA, August 22-25 to see our installation of indoor and outdoor man caves using PaperStone, CharredStone, Lapitec, reSAWN Charred Timber, and GatorSkins. There will be a chance to win a Big Green Egg to get you started!

This Is Epic

No, really it is Epic! Epic wide oak flooring from reSAWN Timber is the ultimate in durability and beauty in the flooring space. It is w-i-d-e. How wide, you ask? 13.5” wide. Constructed in a stable, 3 ply format, the Epic white oak flooring using matching top and bottom layers to create a thick wear layer and stabilizing base layer sets a new standard in flooring.

What else?  For the base layer, it uses the white oak that would normally not be considered “face grade” due to knots or other irregularities, that would not be visually appealing. Still incredibly strong, there is no need to dispose of this useful oak, rather, it can be repurposed as part of the flooring. Looking for something that nobody else has, is visually stunning, has dramatic width and would be totally, well, Epic? You found it here → resawn@caragreen.com

Thinking Big by Building Small

We have always had big aspirations for our products, but in recent months we have learned to celebrate the little things. Working with several couples as they set off on adventures in buses or vans, we have provided them with healthy materials to keep them safe and cozy in their small space. UltraTouch insulation was a natural choice for Gary and Beth Hodges (follow their adventure @the198bus) as they didn’t want nasty, pink fiberglass in the walls of their upfit bus in which they plan to live and travel.

This got us thinking about tiny homes!  A lot of our products are suited to these small spaces, especially considering the limited space. You want to make the right (healthy) choices, right? Durat is lightweight and adds a pop of color to counters, tables, or benches. PaperStone is super durable, has an organic natural look, and it’s warm, matte finish won’t come off glossy in a small intimate space. Lapitec with its natural palette and 7 textures would be a great surface to chop directly on AND integrate an induction burner underneath to get limited surfaces to do double duty.

For less mobile tiny homes, reSAWN cladding (especially charred Shou Sugi Ban) would create a beautiful, resilient exterior that would really distinguish the home from its now-behemoth looking neighbors. We have big expectations for our future but we also realize that it is the little things that matter.

Don’t Buy Crappy Flooring. This Is The Best

Walking the aisles of Home Depot will not result in a high quality flooring. More likely you are looking at some design printed on top of a cheap fiberboard or a thin layer of hardwood atop a cheap wood core. If you want a high quality, well wearing hardwood that is sustainable and beautiful, reSAWN Timber has what you need. Wide plank walnuts, white oak, ash, cherry and red oak are available in a variety of trendy finishes and incredibly thick wear layers that ensure a long-lasting stunning flooring. Also used as wall cladding, reSAWN Timber's line of wood products is unmatched in the industry.

Best in Class - reSAWN Timber

reSAWN Timber was one of the first to come to market with its Charred Collection of Shou Sugi Ban Woods. Using Cypress, they launched a full line of colorful charred wood; an aesthetic designers were clamoring for and excited about. They then launched a line of Western Red Cedar for the west coast market, and then added the even more durable Accoya and Kebony charred lines. Never ones to sit and wait for the next innovation, reSAWN innovates constantly, improving and excelling in their market. Widely known as the best in Charred Timber, reSAWN leads the pack with its technology and color offerings. To get samples of their Charred Collection, please call 919.929.3009 or email resawn@caragreen.com.

GreenBuild

We were so excited to head to GreenBuild and see what Boston had in store. Familiar faces and some new innovations were present, most notably the presence of “biophilia” and “Biophilic design.”

While Green and Build may have some word fatigue, Biophilic Design is THE hot topic for building materials Emanating nature in a space, lots of literal green instead of just the word are really trending in materials.

Texture is also the feel good feature of many building products. The hands on aesthetic is really taking off in building materials.

Acoustics is also making itself heard, with a big focus on human comfort. Sorry, Loud Diedre in Cube 6, we are tuning you out with some sound control.

There Once Was A Tradeshow In Dallas

Our first time at Metrocon in Dallas was a tremendous success. Sporting the Modern Surfaces collection along with reSAWN Timber’s Charred wood, Wonderwall’s reclaimed wood and Kosisen’s transparent colored plywood, CaraGreen’s booth was unmatched. With our Create Better backdrop we showed Texas that everything is Better in North Carolina. An untapped market for many of the brands, the attendees were clamoring to get samples and information and find a way to use the innovative PaperStone, and colorful Durat on their projects. Our Biophilic Design presentation was sold out and we received great feedback on the topic and great booth traffic afterward from those who attended. Thank you Texas for the hospitality, now, back to Raleigh!

What is SuperKül?

reSAWN Timber continues to add to its charred Shou Sugi Ban collection with the Kebony series. SuperKül is one of the options that uses the patented Kebony technique of modifying the wood cell walls to make the material harder and suitable for outdoor use. The process uses an environmentally friendly, bio-based liquid to make softwoods such as pine much harder, and more dimensionally stable, while sporting the beautiful aesthetic of charred Shou Sugi Ban.

For samples of SuperKul and other reSAWN charred options, email resawn@caragreen.com.

Burning Love

Chattanooga, Tennessee is home to the newly opened Songbirds Guitar Museum. This is the premier collection of vintage guitars in the world, displayed artistically throughout the beautifully designed space. ReSAWN Charred Timber adorns the walls in the Hai finish - the darkest, most charred version of Shou Sugi Ban. The owners and guests of the museum love the dark contrast between the burned timbers and the showpiece guitars, which are complemented by imagery and videos of musicians, their guitars and their incredible backstories. It is a unique experience to see these symbols of musical history and this leading edge design material alongside one another. For more information on reSAWN Timber, email resawn@caragreen.com.

Orange Is The New White

In this modern mecca of stark white, eye-blasting brightness, we are pleased to see Core Restaurants incorporate orange in its design in three inspiring materials from CaraGreen.  Durat 480 is a bright primary orange that is used for solid surfacing and not only has the highest recycled content in its category, but is seamless, clean and wears well.  Kirei EchoPanel is used for acoustic baffling in color 295 and 151, creates waves on the ceiling for a dramatic, vibrant effect.  ReSawn Timber is used on the walls in color Orenji, which is a charred, brushed cypress with an orange finish that subtly ties the different guests together.  Core restaurants are healthy choose-your-base salad and grain restaurants that cater to the healthier individual consumer who wants a say in what they eat, and wants to feel good about it too.
