CaraGreen Now Offers IDCEC Approved Continuing Education Course

CaraGreen now offers a course that is accredited through the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC). Interior Designers that take the course are elgible for Continuing Education Units.  The course is titled “Building Materials for Sustainable Interiors” and covers the following:
With LEED’s increasing influence on design today, this presentation gives the designer insight on how interior materials can contribute to LEED credits, and also help tell the sustainable story our clients are hoping to communicate when they decide to “go green.”  Beginning with a high-level overview of LEED and why it has become so important, we then delve into the Materials and Resources related credits in LEED-NC. Finally, new and interesting sustainable options to traditional building materials are discussed, and a hands-on demonstration of actual materials rounds out the presentation. Designers should leave the presentation with a sense that interior materials really can make a difference in contributing to a truly sustainable space.

UltraTouch Cotton Insulation Made in LEED Platinum Manufacturing Facility

In July 2008, CaraGreen toured Bonded Logic's UltraTouch natural cotton fiber insulation manufacturing facility in Chandler, Arizona.  The building is LEED platinum, which is a rare achievement for manufacturing facilities and reiterates the company's commitment to green building.  The facility is exceptionally clean and efficient.  Zero waste is generated during the production of UltraTouch.  Trimmers at each stage of production remove excess cotton and then send it back into the appropriate earlier stage of production.

UltraTouch, which is made from 85% recycled cotton, a rapidly renewable resource, contributes to two LEED prerequisites and eight LEED credits.  It's class A fire rated, mold, mildew, and pest resistant, and contains no VOCs or harmful irritants.  UltraTouch is available in R-13, R-19, and R-30 batts in either 16" or 24" widths.

UltraTouch is in stock at CaraGreen and at several dealers throughout the region.  Email for more information.
