Major Regulatory Shift in California

California Moves to Ban Engineered Stone

Following a unanimous vote by the Cal/OSHA Standards Board, California is moving forward with an Emergency Temporary Standard to ban the fabrication and installation of high-silica engineered stone within the year. This decisive action responds to a rapidly accelerating workplace silicosis epidemic among countertop fabricators, where cases have been doubling every 13 months. While permanent regulations are being developed, this immediate ban marks a massive shift for the industry.
